ABC Countdown

Saturday, April 27, 2019
I wanted to share a fun activity I have done in my classroom in the past as a fun countdown to summer!
We would do an ABC countdown!

Every day we would review a letter of the alphabet by doing fun activities that started with that letter.
I have seen some teachers start with Zz and some teachers start with Aa.  We started with Aa, so our Zz day ended up being the day we headed to the zoo!
Some fun days we did were Apple Day, Bubbles Day, Ice Cream Day, etc!
I recently created an easy print and go pack that focuses on beginning sounds.  This would be a great addition to your countdown or even while you are learning about the letters.

Each day you could use the "What starts with...?" worksheet and color the pictures that start with that letter.

Once you get through the first four letters you can do a review day and complete the "Sound Match" worksheet.

There are a lot of other review sheets that have a mix of letters.

Writing the missing letters or coloring pictures that start with the letter.

Do you have an ABC Countdown in your classroom?

Target Alphabet Letter Writing

Monday, January 14, 2019
I picked up these cute felt letters from the Target Dollar Spot a couple weeks ago!

I thought they would be perfect for a center or group activity!
I created a couple worksheets that you can use in your classroom with these letters or any letters you may have.

The first one your kiddos will pick a letter and write about the picture that matches the letter.  They can write the word, the sentence on the piece, or create their own.

The second worksheet has your kiddos copying the sentence on the pieces by filling in the missing words.

Turkey Alphabet Toss

Sunday, November 4, 2018
I believe learning should be engaging and fun!  With that being said, I think learning can be extra fun when your class can get up and move while learning!
I have created a fun turkey themed alphabet toss!  You can play this in a whole group or you can have a smaller group play it during your reading centers.
To set it up, place the turkeys in the middle of your circle.

Students take turns throwing the bean bag on a letter.  Once they land on a letter or land close to a letter.  They will say that letter and mark it on their recording sheet.

To challenge kiddos, you can have them say the sound or think of a word that starts with that letter instead.

Another way you can use these turkeys is to spread the turkeys around the room on the floor.  Students will start on one side of the room.  You will call out a letter, sound, or object and the students will WALK and try to find the letter you called out.
If a student finds it, they will step on the letter or stand by the letter.  Continue playing until you have called all the letters.  If a student runs or is pushing, I would have them sit out one of the rounds.

Toddler Tuesday {Preschool Activities} Week 4

Tuesday, October 23, 2018

This week I wanted to share a fun activity that focuses on gross motor!  We played a fun letter toss game with a candy corn theme!!
I put these large candy corn letters around the room.

We stood in a circle around the letters.  Each kiddo gets a chance to throw a bean bag on a letter.  They will say the letter that the bean bag lands on!  If it does not land on a letter, have them say the letter that is closest to their bean bag.

There are so many ways you can play this game.  You could have your kiddos say the sound or something that starts with that letter too!
You can leave the letters on the floor after a kiddo says it OR you can have that kiddo keep the letter they got.

I have added a recording sheet as well!  If playing in a large or small group, after a letter is called out everyone can trace/color that letter.  There are two recording sheets so you can decide if you want them to just color the letter or if you want them to trace it.

Grab it HERE!

Five Halloween Themed Activities for the Classroom

Thursday, October 18, 2018
Halloween is only a couple weeks away!  If you throw a Halloween party in your classroom, you may be looking for some fun activities to add to your day!

I found 5 fun Halloween activities that would be perfect for the classroom.  They all are educational and FUN!
1. Fine Motor Web
Put some fall or Halloween objects on a table.  Then, make a spider web out of tape.  Your kiddos will use tweezers to pick up the objects and place them in their cup!

2.  Gross Motor Web
Make a spider web on the floor using painters tape.  Then, place plastic spiders around the web.  Your kiddos will walk on the web lines collecting the spider.  Once they get through the web you can have a prize waiting for them or they can turn around and walk back to the start.

3.  Life Size Pumpkin Memory
Your kiddos will love this big game of memory!  Create pumpkins out of paper plates with different faces (2 of each face).  This could be done with the class or on your own.  Then, flip over each plate and play it like memory by trying to find the matching faces.

4.  Find the Letter-Hole Punch
This would be a great game to do if you pull small groups that day!  Simply, write the letters A-Z around a pumpkin cut out and call out letters.  Your kiddos will hole punch the letter you call.  Make it more challenging by calling out letter sounds or "what does apple start with?".

5. Pumpkin Tic Tac Toe
Create a tic tac toe board game using tape on the floor.  Then, use 2 different colored pumpkins to play tic tac toe on your floor board!

Touchtronic Letters Review/Giveaway

Monday, March 9, 2015
I recently was in Atlanta at the EDexpo and got to check out the newest educational materials and supplies.  One of those things were the Touchtronic Letters from Junior Learning.

They are a set of letters that were made to be used on the iPad!  Imagine magnetic letters, but for an iPad!
There are two FREE apps that are compatible with these letters

One app is all about practicing the individual letters and the other is a CVC building app.
The iPad is very interactive, but adding a manipulative that can be used with it makes it 10 times better!  Your kiddos can actually see and touch each letter for better reinforcement.
There are three different games to play with the ABC app.  My kiddos loved the Letter Bubbles!
Find the letter that matches the first sound and "pop" the bubble with it!

This one I LOVED because it isolated that vowel!  This was perfect for my kiddos because this is what we are really working on now!

This CVC app was amazing too!  It starts out with the three blank spots.  Your kiddos build a CVC word and the matching picture shows up on the top.
One thing that I thought was brilliant was that when you start building your word, the app picks up the sight words and reads them for you!
If that isn't great, you can tap on each letter and it says each sound for you.  This is great reinforcement, especially for those short tricky short vowel sounds.
If you aren't already excited, the amazing people at Junior Learning are giving away a set of letters to one of my readers!
PLUS-if you use the word TRONIC at checkout you can recieve 20% off any of their Touchtronic prodcuts!

Monday Made It

Monday, July 28, 2014
I'm linking up with Tara for her Monday Made It linky!

I bought these glass rocks and letter stickers from Dollar General!  I haven't ever been to that store before, but they have a lot of great things there!
I took the stickers and put them on the top of each rock.  You can also put them on the bottom!

I bought some Mod Podge to put over the top of the stickers to help them stick better!

When you first put the Mod Podge on it will have a white tint to it, but when it dries it is clear!
You can put magnets on the back or keep them the way they are.  I plan on using them in my Word Work center and have my kiddos use them to build their words.  I went on a letter buying spree, so I have another pack of stickers that I plan on using to make an uppercase and lowercase match game.  I will put the uppercase sticker on one rock and the lowercase on the other.

I FINALLY finished my Kindergarten at Last pack!  I had been working on it for awhile!  It is packed with beginning of the year printables!

I also have "Made It" to 1,000 followers on TpT! :)
