ABC Countdown

I wanted to share a fun activity I have done in my classroom in the past as a fun countdown to summer!
We would do an ABC countdown!

Every day we would review a letter of the alphabet by doing fun activities that started with that letter.  

I have seen some teachers start with Zz and some teachers start with Aa.  We started with Aa, so our Zz day ended up being the day we headed to the zoo!  

Some fun days we did were Apple Day, Bubbles Day, Ice Cream Day, etc!

I recently created an easy print and go pack that focuses on beginning sounds.  This would be a great addition to your countdown or even while you are learning about the letters.

Each day you could use the "What starts with...?" worksheet and color the pictures that start with that letter.

Once you get through the first four letters you can do a review day and complete the "Sound Match" worksheet.

There are a lot of other review sheets that have a mix of letters.

Writing the missing letters or coloring pictures that start with the letter.

Fact Families and a TREAT for YOU!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!  

We have been going over fact families a lot this week in math.  I tried doing these with my kids before and they were just NOT getting the concept.  They didn't understand that you are ONLY using the 3 numbers given to you.  Isn't it funny things you think will be simple are the most complicated!  I used a hands on approach to reteach this concept.

I created a Fact Family Mat and whipped up some color coded cards to go with it.  I told my students they needed to write 2 addition problems and 2 subtraction problems by moving their cards around.  I put a plus sign on one side and a minus on the other.

We used the mats and white boards one day.  The next day we reviewed the same concept but didn't use the Fact Family Mat.  I gave each kiddo a recording sheet.  They picked their cards, colored their dot to match the number colors, and then wrote their problems.

My favorite kiddo quote: "Hey!  This is getting easier!"  Finally, we are getting it!

Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

I'm not crazy it was actually snowing today while I was working on my new Let It Snow!  Literacy and Math Activities Pack!  See our first snowfall!!  I'm excited now, but talk to me again in April and it might be a different story! :)

Alright, back to my newest winter themed pack!  This pack is filled with center activities like word family sorting, color word building, and number word matching!  It also includes many worksheets to review center activities and other kindergarten topics like color words, sight words, numbers, and reading!  There are also two mini book that the students can make that have them reading color words, number words, and positional words!  I can't wait to have my kiddos start using this pack!  The best thing is it only has snowmen and penguin related clipart...NO Christmas related themes so your little ones who don't celebrate certain holidays will still be able to participate in all of these activities!
