Writing Goals

Monday, September 30, 2013
Today was one of those days!  Forgot to set my alarm, TOO much traffic because a car was on fire, and then got to school WITHOUT my curriculum books or lesson plan book-oops!  However, today was a really successful day despite my day starting out blah!

You have probably seen this poster floating around Pinterest!  Each kiddo picks a goal to work on and puts their name by that goal.  During Writer's Workshop, they will focus on that goal.  Once we meet that goal we will pick new goals!

Anything that involves a Post-It note make it 10 times better! :)
Don't forget to Stop by tomorrow for a fun a little TREAT!! :)

Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed!

Thursday, September 26, 2013
We had fun today!  I feel like we have been boring and too much to the book, so today we learned about Johnny Appleseed and did lots of fun activities!  All of the activities we did I found on TpT for FREE!  Yes, that is what I do last minute...check TpT for free activities!
We "practiced" guided reading groups today.  I had my kiddos complete a sentence scramble activity.  You can find it here!

During this time my principal walks in!  Ahh!  The kiddos were okay.  They could of done better, but they still rocked it and we had a good closing to Daily 5 and then she left.

We also made the cutest Johnny Appleseed hats!  Grab them here!  Each kiddo colored their hats and on the back wrote what they learned about him today!
And yes, one of my little ones could only come up with this...

Did you do anything fun to celebrate today!?

Parachutes!

Tuesday, September 24, 2013
Today was a great day!  I was reunited with my better half...IRENE!  It has been like a month!  We met up for a happy hour with some other fellow co-workers!  I so needed this!  So many crazy stories-the life of a teacher, right!? :)
One last beer on the patio!  We totally lucked out on the nice weather!
In science we are learning about air and weather.  Yesterday we made parachutes!  I thought I would share because it was the easiest thing EVER and the kiddos were loving it!  This could of turned out chaotic, but it was calm and only one kiddo tried standing on the table to test their parachute...phew!
Supplies- napkin, stickers/tape, string, paperclip

Tape each string to the end of the napkin using the stickers.

Tie the string around the paperclip using the sticker.

EXPLORE!
Hope some of you can use this in your classroom! :)

Old and New Products

Sunday, September 22, 2013
Have you ever gone back to your first product and thought, "YIKES!"?  I did that today with my very first product-Give Thanks:Thanksgiving Activity Pack.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best!  After aligning graphics, adding an ABC activity, and updating the cover/info pages, I can say it looks A LOT better! :)

I am pretty proud of myself because this original pack was all black and white which is such a color ink saver!  With that in mind, I made a new pack that is all black and white worksheets.  Sometimes we just need a good worksheet!  My new pack is called Print and LEARN: October.  It is 30 pages of fall and Halloween themed worksheets.  This pack only includes 8 pages of Halloween worksheets since not everyone can celebrate it in the classroom.

These pages are perfect for morning work, homework, or just extra class work! :)
Concepts covered in the worksheets are beginning/ending sounds, letter tracing, number writing, adding, number order, and color words.

Our 5 Senses!

Thursday, September 19, 2013
We are just starting our Air/Weather Unit for science, but before we started this we explored POPCORN using our 5 senses.  The kiddos LOVED it!  I created a recording sheet that can be used for any 5 senses activity!  I showed my ESL teacher who co-teaches with me for science and she was so amazed I made it.  If she only knew my secret blogging/TpT life...haha!  She is the best! :)

After we filled everything in, we glued it into our science journals.

Training Day

Wednesday, September 18, 2013
I had another sub today... Training day for K and 1st grade teachers in the district.  One of the highlights was seeing a teacher who I used to work with there! :)  We talked a lot about assessments and everyone brought in their assessment "stuff".  Of course I snapped some pics to share with you!
One sweet kinder teacher brought in her assessment booklet!  The other kinder teacher and I were blown away or more like "duh why didn't we think of that!"  Making a convenient booklet with ALL the assessment sheets!

Another teacher brought in a binder with page/folder dividers.  Each kiddo gets their own folder.  Just tape on their names so you can use them again next year.  Maybe a ton of you already do this, but everyone a the training was loving it and slightly jealous of how organized she was ;)  I totally went to Target after and bought some dividers...on CLEARANCE! YES!

My 600 Follower Giveaway is still going on!  Don't forget to enter!  Blog about it for 10 entries!

Popcorn Words

Tuesday, September 17, 2013
I've never called sight words "popcorn words" until this week.  Only because I wanted to make it fun and we had popcorn in science (more of that later).
This is our popcorn bag that is filled with all our new sight words!  Well, really there are only two but we are adding to it daily!

One of my old co workers made these popcorn sight word cards for me.  I will admit I never knew what to do with them until now!  One of my quietest kiddo, sitting criss cross applesauce gets to pick out our new popcorn word!

Then we read our word, sing it, chant it, and anything else we can think of to learn this new word!  Finally, we complete the matching page from my Dolch Sight Word Worksheet Pack!

Have you entered yet!?

A, a, Apple

Monday, September 16, 2013
The days fly by!  I need a little extra time in the day to do everything!
Today we reviewed letter and sounds...yes I had a few that said, "Ugh this is kindergarten!" Well, ugh some of them needed the review!
I started by showing a slideshow of each letter upper/lower and a picture starting with that letter.  We went through each slide and said the letter, sound, and picture.  My attempt at trying to share this with you is saving the PowerPoint into JPEG's and saving them in a file here!  Sorry in advance if it doesn't work, I didn't have a picture of us doing it so this is the next best thing!
After we did the sounds we practiced our letter writing...we need it!  I used the two tracer sheets from my Back to School Pack!

Reading Folders

Saturday, September 14, 2013
Yesterday we put together our Reading Folders!  Each kiddo has a folder that includes a notebook and a reading log.

The kiddos will use these when they are reading the books in their book boxes.  After they read a book, they write it on their reading log and write about it in their notebooks.  We talked about how it is important to record and write about the books we read.
Since I am "the best teacher ever" I let everyone decorate their folders with...MARKERS!

My kiddos were so eager to try it out that I had some kiddos finish early and chose to read books in their book boxes just so they could write in their notebooks and record it on their reading log!  I am I talking about kiddos who do not like to read were reading...umm YES!

I just added the 1st and 2nd grade Dolch Sight Word Worksheets PLUS I combined my Pre-Primer/Primer Pack with it and created a BUNDLE of ALL sight words Pre-Primer-2nd Grade!  This is perfect practice or introductions to every sight word! :)  Click on the picture to take you to my TpT store!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous Saturday! :)

Five for Friday the 13th!!

Friday, September 13, 2013

1.  We are in full testing mode for reading and I had a sub on Thursday!  I do not like having a sub especially 11 days in!  I tried to be as organized as possible and it helped that I was in the building testing, a little.  For the most part my kiddos were great!  A few had issues, but there are always some.  It was a great practice for my next sub which is on Wednesday already!  Already have a required training for the year...YIKES!
2.  We did a week of bus safety!  Most of the week was boring rules, but today we did a fun mini book!  Each page had them cutting and gluing pictures with bus safety rules.
3. After our books, we did a roll, add, and color!

4. In math we are working on counting and ordering numbers!
5.  So I just found out I can spend $7000 on my classroom through a grant my school got!!  The only requirement is that we order 4 iPads (AMAZING)...so that leaves me with over $4,000!  The possibilities are endless!  What would YOU order!?
