Color Matching Sprinkles

Monday, June 24, 2019

We celebrated National Donut Day at the beginning of June with a morning of donuts and a fun color matching activity.
I drew a giant donut on a piece of poster board along with colored sprinkles (colored rectangles).

Then, I cut out rectangles out of the pieces of paper that matched the sprinkles on our donut.

We took the colored paper and matched them to the colored sprinkles on the donut.  We glued them, but you could reuse them by not gluing them on too.

For an added challenge, you could draw each sprinkle in a black marker and just write the color word on each sprinkle.  Your kiddos then would have to read the color word and match the sprinkles correctly.

Color Sorting

Wednesday, March 13, 2019
Sorting is a fun activity to do and a great skill to have when in preschool and kindergarten.  A good place to start when beginning to sort is with colors.  Colors are everywhere and most likely you have colored objects around your class or house.

A fun activity that I found all over Pinterest was a object color sort using objects around your house/classroom!  We used our big lego blocks to sort by color.

I laid out colored construction paper and we put the blocks on each paper to match the color.

We are totally into hiding things and finding them, so you could also "hide" the blocks and have your kiddos find the blocks.

I also have created a fun color sorting center that you can use.  It is laid out the same way, but I have included colored object cards to sort.

Plus, there is a color match worksheet included.  Your kiddos will color each picture the correct color.

The First Few Days of School

Friday, August 17, 2018
Those first few days of school are always a blur in kindergarten.  Did everyone eat and make it home?
I wanted to show you some EASY activities your kiddos can do while you get beginning of the day things together or a great way to practice your routines and rituals.  You could put these in a "center" and practice what a center looks like.  These would be great to use while you are practicing of cleaning up.  Play for a few or 10 minutes and then practice picking up quickly and quietly.

This is a simple bird sorting activity.  Any color sorting activity should be easy for all students and if it is not, pair up students to work together on it!

These number matching cows are great because any academic level can do them.  They can be matched by color OR they can be matched by number/number of spots.

My son got these books for Christmas one year, but of course they would be perfect in the classroom!  Each book can be read to your kiddos by pushing the buttons on the Me Reader.  Each page is color coded with a shape, so they will know what button to push!

Finally, a good old box of blocks!  This is open ended and lets your kiddos explore.  You could give them a certain number of blocks and tell them to create something or just let them run wild!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear

Monday, September 22, 2014
This week we are doing Brown Bear!  I wanted to share some of my Daily 5 centers that we are doing this week (and probably next because I forget to switch them out...)!
Find it here!
All of these centers are working with the color words!  I planned on putting these color word mats in one of the centers and then realized we don't know how to spell those color words just yet.  So I threw in the color word circles which I thought might be tricky but my kiddos rocked it!

Find it here!
I made sure to use the colored letters, so it would be a little easier to build their words.
Find it here!
These word cards can be used for ordering the events in the book, but I added some magnetic letters and now we build each one!
Find it here!
Same cards, but these are tracers!  I made enough sets and put it in my Writing center!
All of these centers can be found in my Brown Bear Activity Pack!

I want to give one of these packs away!
To win:
1. Pin any of the pictures in the post.
2.  Comment with your pin and your email! :)
3.  I'll pick a winner tomorrow night!
Congrats to Diane, Kelly, Lorena, and Lori! :)

You Can't Catch Me, I'm The Gingerbread Man

Thursday, December 13, 2012

Tomorrow is finally Friday!!  Then, one more week and 2 weeks off, but who's counting ;)!  Today, was another fun filled gingerbread day!  One of my kiddos favorite activities was our colored gingerbread creations.  Kristen's fabulous Gingerbread Colors had a cute trace, write, and color worksheet in her pack, so I took those worksheets and cut each sentence apart.

I had my kinders trace and write their sentence.

Then, they colored their gingerbread to match!

I hung them on the wall outside our door and my kiddos sure were proud to see them hung up like always! :)
