Thanksgiving Activities and Games for the Classroom

I have made a list of fun activities and games that you can play in your classroom this month!

Check out what I found:

1.  Pumpkin Play Dough
This would be fun to make as a class or make and bring in.  I would use this play dough in my centers to make words, letters, and to solve math problems!

2.  Directed Turkey Drawing
I have done this with my class and it was so fun!  I had them all sit on the carpet with clipboards and we went step by step using these instructions!  This would make a cute class display!

3.  Turkey Bowling
You could have small groups each work on a "turkey pin" or you could make them yourself.  This would be a perfect game to practice subtraction!

4.  Stuff the Turkey
This one takes a little bit of prep BUT you could always just take a paper bag and glue a picture of a turkey on it ;)  To make it more educational, have students answer questions before they get to toss their "food" into the turkey.

5.  Turkey Tag
This one is a fun one to get your kiddos up and moving.  It is also great because there is a great book to read before you start your game!

Toddler Tuesday {Preschool Ideas} Week 5

It is Halloween week!  I hope you're week isn't too scary!
Today I have a fun project you can do in between Halloween and Thanksgiving!
How cute are these Q-tip trees!?  They are easy to make and even help work on those fine motor skills!

I used thicker paper, so the paint would not tear with all the paint in one area.  I drew a tree using a black marker.  You can draw a tree or you can print a tree out.  I have a tree HERE that you can print.

I set out colors you would see on fall trees along with a bunch of Q-tips.  Your kiddos simply dip their Q-tip into the paint and make small dots all around the tree.

Hang these trees up to make an adorable fall display in your class or in your hallway!

Toddler Tuesday {Preschool Activities} Week 4

This week I wanted to share a fun activity that focuses on gross motor!  We played a fun letter toss game with a candy corn theme!!
I put these large candy corn letters around the room.

We stood in a circle around the letters.  Each kiddo gets a chance to throw a bean bag on a letter.  They will say the letter that the bean bag lands on!  If it does not land on a letter, have them say the letter that is closest to their bean bag.

There are so many ways you can play this game.  You could have your kiddos say the sound or something that starts with that letter too!
You can leave the letters on the floor after a kiddo says it OR you can have that kiddo keep the letter they got.

I have added a recording sheet as well!  If playing in a large or small group, after a letter is called out everyone can trace/color that letter.  There are two recording sheets so you can decide if you want them to just color the letter or if you want them to trace it.

Oriental Trading Fall/Halloween Party

I'm here to share with you some fun Fall/Halloween party ideas with you from Oriental Trading!  I was excited when Oriental Trading contacted me because last year my "Spooky Centers" was a flop.  As my kiddos were packing up, one asked when we were going to do our Spooky Centers...
This year, I stocked up with some fun activities and games that can be used during your party.  The best part is it can be educational!
Here are some fun games that I got from Oriental Trading:
Candy Corn Bowling- Have your kiddos record how many they started with and subtract how many they knocked over!  Great subtraction practice and how cute are those little plastic candy corn pins!?

Jack O Lantern Bean Bag Toss- This one is fun because you can have your kiddos add up their points (older kiddos) OR change the numbers so you kiddos can practice adding smaller numbers.

After playing some games, you will need some PRIZES!  Check out the prizes I picked up!

Fall Freebie

Fall is here which means cooler temps and changing leaves!
I got some foam leaf stickers from the Oriental Trading Company.  I did similar word problem activity a few years ago!

Here is what we did with them!  Each kiddo got their own tree to color.

Once they had their tree all colored I gave them a random amount of leaves.  

They stuck the leaves wherever they wanted on or around their tree.

When they were done they traced the bottom sentence and filled in the blank with the number of leaves they were given.

They LOVED this project and it was great counting practice!  If you want a copy of this page click HERE!

Fall Trees

We finished up our science unit on trees on Friday by making some ADORABLE fall trees!  I was inspired by this pin, but was talked out of actually painting by another kindergarten teacher...haha!
I gave each kiddo a orange, brown, red, and yellow strip of paper.

There job was to rip the paper while I went around tracing their hands for their trees.

Once they were done ripping, they colored their tree.  Then, they started gluing on their "leaves"!

As they were gluing, I handed out a green strip.  They snipped one side to make grass for the bottom of their tree.

They turned out so cute!  They took some time since there were so many steps-plus the clean up, but so worth it!

Counting Leaves~Math Activity FREEBIE

Fall is here which means cooler temps and changing leaves!  However, we are in some weird heat wave so our "cooler weather" right now is actually 85 degrees...
I bought some foam leaf stickers from the Dollar Tree last year and did a fun word problem activity.  Now that I am back in kinder I was on a hunt for those leaves again and SURPRISE they were back at the Dollar Tree!
Here is what we did with them!  Each kiddo got their own tree to color.

Once they had their tree all colored I gave them a random amount of leaves.  

They stuck the leaves wherever they wanted on or around their tree.

When they were done they traced the bottom sentence and filled in the blank with the number of leaves they were given.

Story Problem Activity

 Almost Friday!  Check out this fun story problem activity we did!  I found these foam leaf stickers at the Dollar Tree!

I created 3 different worksheets that focused on subtracting.  I had all the kiddos color their tree.

Then, they added their leaves.  Our story problem was about how many leaves fell on the ground and how many were still left on the tree.

A nice, blurry picture of all three worksheets...sorry! haha!

One only focused on writing the equation, one was just filling in the blanks with the numbers and writing the equation, and one was writing the whole problem on your own!  

These worksheets are saved on my computer at school, so I will attach them tomorrow! :)
