Stop, Swap, and Roll

Friday, April 24, 2015

I am linking up with Jungle Learners for another Stop, Swap, and Roll!
I have been paired up with the fabulous Emily from Emmy Mac's Class!

I swapped my Dotter Fun pack for her Feed the Dog activity packs!

We are in our addition and subtraction unit in math, so these packs were PERFECT!

The packs go up to 20, but I used 1-12.  Each number has a cute dog and dog dish with the number on the dish.  There are dog bones with addition or subtraction problems on each one.  Your kiddos pick a dog bone, solve the problem, and put it on the answer.

I loved how we could lay all the numbers out and MOVE around to match the answers.
I put all the dog bones in a bucket and had my kiddos pick a bone from the bucket and match it.  We didn't end up using them, but there were also the cutest number lines and counters available too!

Bright Ideas: Morning Meeting Greeting

Saturday, April 18, 2015
I am so excited to be a part of  the Bright Ideas Linky!
I am going to share an idea for your Morning Meeting greeting time.  If you follow me on Instgram, you saw this on there.
I like to use Morning Meeting to review things we have learned the day before or just review things we have learned that year.

During our greeting time, I will pass out addition or subtraction cards with answers, puzzle pieces, or letter matching cards to each student.

They have to take their card and find the person who is a match to their card.  Once they find their partner they greet them (saying hello with a handshake, high five, etc) and then they give their partner a compliment.  We are at that time of year where we are very comfortable with each other (maybe a little too much sometimes), so it is a great time to throw in something nice to fill our buckets :)
This is so quick and easy because we all have different kinds of flashcards or small puzzles laying around.
Once a group says hello and gives a compliment they come up to me and switch their cards for new ones.  Then they are off to find their new partner and they will do it all over again.

Five for Friday...Saturday Edition

Saturday, April 11, 2015

This week flew by!  Check out what we were up to!

We used these fun word puzzles from Junior Learning in one of our literacy centers this week!  These puzzles came in a box of 6 other phonics games!  I will be blogging about the other games this week!

We are always working on our CVC words.  This was another way to practice identifying the ending of those words.  This is from my CVC pack!

I posted on my Instagram that I went to Target this week to check out the clearance on their Easter stuff.  I found these cute metal Easter baskets!  They were 50% off and came in 2 different sizes!

Yesterday, my day started like this and ended with the sun shining!  MN weather is crazy!

The hubby and I spent our Friday night buying a new grill!  Here is to hoping the warm weather stays so we can start grilling without our winter coats on! :)

Mentoring Minds~Critical Thinking for Life!

Thursday, April 2, 2015
Have you heard of Mentoring Minds!?  They create effective learning tools that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving.  We all know how it important these skills are for our kiddos to be successful in the classroom.
The people at Mentoring Minds sent me this great curriculum planning flip chart.  I got the Early Childhood Development guide and it would be so great for those preschool and kindergarten teachers!  They are available in every grade though!  I am sure some of the things in this guide you have seen, but it is a great refresher.  This resource is great because you can have it right next to you to reference as you plan.

This flip chart has everything you need to create effective lesson plans.  Each flip chart covers the core subjects like math, science, reading, etc.  It also includes ideas and tips for behavior management, parents/volunteers, and includes performance standards!

Each section has a checklist on the skills you should be teaching your kiddos and what you can do to get your kiddos to meet that standard.

There are also lists of materials that would help learn these things.
On the back there is this great list of questions to encourage critical and creative thinking.
Mentoring Minds has more than flip charts!  They have resources for reading, math, and even behavior management!
It would probably take many blog posts to tell you about all the great and affordable tools they have for teachers!  Everything is so useful and created for teachers by people who understand children and their development.
Would you like to win a flip chart for yourself!?
