Sight Word Passages

Friday, June 14, 2019
Sight words can be very tricky to learn and remember.  I always spend a lot of time reviewing, reviewing, reviewing them as we learn them.

I am always thinking of fun ways to practice the sight words we learn.  We sing about them, chant the letters in them, and read books with them in it.

I have created a fun way to practice these words that is perfect for ALL levels of readers.
You can put these in your literacy centers, use them during guided reading, or use it during writing.
Each passage uses short sentences that focus on a sight word.

Your kiddos will read the passage, circle the sight word, read the sight word, then write the sight word.
The best part of these passages is that the kiddos that aren't quite reading yet can still search through the passage to find the sight word.

Finding sight words while you read is a great reading skill and will help those little ones become better readers too!

Instead of using a pencil or marker, you can use a highlighter.  Have you ever given a kindergartner a highlighter?  It's like Christmas morning ;)

Valentine's Day Centers!

Tuesday, February 3, 2015
I pulled out some Valentine's Day centers this week!
These adorable love monster sight word cards are from my Love Monster activity pack!  I put them into my word work centers and had my kiddos build each word on a baking pan!
The next couple activities are from my Valentine's Day Writing Center Activities pack!
I laminated the recording sheet so we can reuse it.  I have my kiddos pick a word, find it on the sheet, trace, and write it!
Updated my writing center to put in these sheets!
My kinders read, trace, write, and build each sentence

Five for Friday

Friday, January 9, 2015
We made it! First week back!  Even though we had a "Cold Day" on Wednesday we still had a busy week!

On Tuesday, we had some people come in and do a play for our kinders about accepting people who have disabilities.  It was extremely cute and very interactive!

At my old school, we used the Six Pillars of Character curriculum.  I started using it with my kinders this year to review each pillar.  We finished trustworthy by making gold medals!  My  kiddos ate it up! :0

We have been hitting the sight words and completed a few of these worksheets this week!  These can be found in my Dolch Word Bundle pack!

We are reviewing our number unit by using this Missing Number worksheet from my recently updated Let it Snow pack!

I spent a week in Florida over break and brought back seashells for each of my kiddos.  Majority of them have never been to a beach, so I thought it would be fun to bring a  part of the beach to them!  You would of thought I brought them $100 bills!  They were in love and "listened to the ocean" with them.  I still have kiddos who all of a sudden tell me they went to the beach yesterday...It has been like -20 here and we do not live by any beaches...ha!

How was your week!?  Did you have any days off?

Read it, Bead it, Type it, Write it

Thursday, December 18, 2014
Melissa, from Jungle Learners, contacted me a while back to try out her Read it, Bead it, Write it, Type it pack!

I am SO glad she did because this pack is amazing!  There are so many skills that you hit in one easy to use literacy center!
I used the Pre-Primer Edition with my kinders!
First, your kiddos have their Read it, Bead it, Type it, Write it mat and a stack of sigh words.  These sight words are not just any sight words though.  Each card has pictures on it.

You kiddos need to figure out what the beginning sound of each picture is and then find that bead.  Once they figure out each sound and put their beads on their string, they will have their sight word.
Next, they will write the sight word and then use the keyboard on the bottom to type their word.
This was so fun!
I used a page protector, but you could also laminate!  I had these letter beads from Lakshore, but any letter beads would work out great!
Any activity that makes learning sight words fun PLUS working on beginning sounds is number one in my book!
Melissa was so kind to let me give away a copy to one of my followers!  Merry Christmas to you! :)

We used one of the pages from my Dotter Fun pack this past week.  Instead of making my kiddos wait their turn and use the dotters I had, I pulled out our highlighters!  Everything is more fun with a highlighter or any type of marker!  No dotters-no problem :)
We are practicing our beginning sounds!
We also are having a blast and learning a lot with our half sheets!

Five for Friday

You did it!  You survived Halloween week!  We aren't allowed to celebrate Halloween because some consider it a religious holiday, BUT we still had a pretty fun 4 day week...yes we had Halloween off!! :)

I finished my Half Sheet-Alphabet pack!  My kiddos rocked our letter review!  One buyer took each letter and made it into a small book!  Genius!

We still love our cutting practice with these sight word pages!

I love this time of year because my kinders are finally trying to sound spell!
"This weekend I got new clothes."

The closest I could get to a "Halloween" activity.  Graphing skittles!  This was the first time we tried graphing and everyone seemed to get it!:)

We had Friday off to do our grades!  I had mine done so I spent the day doing work in my classroom and planning with my team!  Hope everyone had a fabulous Halloween.

Save Your Paper!

Tuesday, October 7, 2014
I don't know about your school, but at our school we have a monthly "printing allowance"!  Some months I have enough and some months I get more money added and I still need more.  That is when this idea was officially born-Half Sheets!

A whole worksheet put on a half sheet-how perfect!  The first pack is all Pre Primer DOLCH words!  I say the first pack because there WILL be more to come! :)
Each half sheet has your kiddos tracing, writing, and coloring the sight word!
My kinders loved it!  Maybe it was the smaller size, but I actually heard one say "I love this!" Kid approved!
This will be on sale until tomorrow, but I want to give one away now!
To win:
1. PIN a picture!
2. COMMENT with your email!
3.  I will pick a winner tomorrow night!
Congrats Rachel!

Five for Friday on Saturday...again...

It officially feels like fall!  Check out our week!

We were getting tired of tracing our names in our writing center, so I added some ABC tracers and dry erase markers!  All of a sudden tracing is fun again!  These sheets are from my Kindergarten at Last pack!

In math we took our cubes and made patterns.  We made repeating and non repeating patterns.  Once we were done with making them we sorted them!

We LOVE our sight word time!  We use Megan Wheeler's Sight Word Chant cards to spell and say our sight word.  Then, we complete this sheet from my Dolch Sight Word Bundle.  However, whenever I ask my kids what this word is they say m-y, MY...

I got my classroom iPads Thursday!  Yay!  I can't wait to show you one of my favorite new apps!  Blog post coming soon... ;)  (The suspense is killing you, I know)
One of my little ones brought in a pencil box filled with grass and GRASSHOPPERS!  I made sure we kept that box in his locker and that he brought it home at the end of the day...  The last thing I wanted was that box to fall on the floor and grasshoppers to be jumping around everywhere...oh kindergarten :)
Hope everyone had a great week!  The hubby and I are off to wedding number 8 of the summer!
